LARCC was formed in 1989 to encourage and promote the building and flying of
radio-controlled model airplanes. We meet once a month (third Thursday) at the
field in the summer, or at the City Limits (food and spirits) in Lodi,
Wisconsin, in the winter.
Our meetings consist of trying to cover the details that keep us together as
a club, and then show-and-tell our latest models, building tips, videos and
stories. We continually try to encourage the youth of our community to become
involved in this sport/hobby.
The Lodi Area Radio Control Club is a nationally chartered club with The Academy of Model
Aeronautics, Inc. They are an excellent source of support, expertise and
advice in many areas as well as providing a focal point for all model
aeronautics nation-wide. They also provide individual liability insurance, which
in this day and age is almost a necessity.
We flew for the first couple of years from the local full-scale Lodi Airport.
We then had the opportunity to have our own field after the town of Lodi closed
their landfill and capped it with clay, then six inches of black dirt.
Unfortunately, we were not able to be involved in the final seeding and grading.
It took several summers of hard work filling washes, picking up stones, and
planting more seed to get it to a fairly flyable condition. Since we cannot
scrape or dig to level this cap (per DNR restrictions), all leveling is done by
adding topsoil in any low spot. In (1998) we spread eight truckloads (many
thanks to Joel and his Bobcat); leveled and seeded it, and are adding more fill
this spring to make the runway as smooth as possible.
